Advice For Former Zantac Patients Now That The Heartburn Drug Is No Longer Available
Heartburn sufferers have a serious medical condition that should be treated immediately
Monday, November 23, 2020 - Heartburn sufferers have been unable to find a safe and effective alternative to Zantac for more nearly a year since Sanofi, the maker of the drug, voluntarily pulled it from the market over excessive levels of NDMA were found arousing cancer fears. The first round of lawsuits claim the long-term, regular use of Zantac caused one of a long list of types of cancer. These cancer allegations include cancer of the stomach, bladder, and colon as the most common, but also cancer of the esophagus, intestines, prostate, and breast. The Zantac replacement dilemma that people find themselves in is quite serious as failing to eliminate heartburn and gastro esophagus reflux disease (GERD), sometimes called acid reflux, often leads to esophageal cancer. Over 15 million Americans were taking Zantac at the time of the recall and everyone should consult their doctors for recommendations on lifestyle changes and potential alternative drugs. Also, former Zantac patients may want to have cancer tests to see if they are among the most unfortunate. The Mayo Clinic warns former Zantac patients to watch for the early symptoms of the condition: "A burning sensation in your chest (heartburn), usually after eating, which might be worse at night, chest pain, difficulty swallowing, regurgitation of food or sour liquid, the sensation of a lump in your throat, chronic cough, laryngitis, new or worsening asthma, and disrupted sleep." The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that Zantac users consider replacing Zantac with famotidine (Pepcid), cimetidine (Tagamet), esomeprazole (Nexium), lansoprazole (Prevacid), and omeprazole (Prilosec), all of which have not tested positive for NDMA. Unfortunately, Zantac replacement drugs fall into the category of protein pump inhibitors (PPIs) and must be taken every day to be effective. PPI drugs have been linked to causing life-threatening strokes and have other serious side effects. Zantac cancer lawsuit consultation from top national attorneys offer a no obligation free case review before filing a claim.
Gerd is a much different medical condition than heartburn although the two are commonly mistaken one for the other. Both can be identified by pain in the upper abdomen, chest, and throat sometimes radiating up to the teeth, jaw, and sinuses. Heartburn pain occurs when the esophageal sphincter fails to properly close or remain shut and stomach acids back up into the esophagus. The stomach is protected by a mucus membrane from stomach acids but the esophagus is not. Heartburn usually occurs after eating too much or eating spicy foods, or drinking caffeinated beverages. Drinking alcohol can also numb the esophageal sphincter making its function less than optimal. Getting heartburn frequently can be a sign you have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a serious condition that can lead to developing cancer of the esophagus.
The Mayo Clinic describes Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) as occurring "when stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus," much like I described above. If you have developed cancer and were frequent Zantac users you should speak with a Zantac Cancer Lawyer for a no-cost, no-obligation review of your particular circumstances.
